Challenge and goal

Students often struggle to find motivation to delve deeper into STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), which they perceive as difficult or abstract. The goal is to encourage interest and active engagement by using a collaborative and interactive approach on Moodle.
Increase student motivation and improve their understanding of STEM subjects through collaborative learning, practical problem-solving, and the use of digital technologies such as forums and groups on Moodle.

Topic of the user case

The use of the Moodle platform to organize collaborative activities and discussion forums that stimulate the learning of STEM subjects through problem-solving challenges, group projects, and peer-to-peer learning.

Local context (specific)

This use case applies to the STEAM courses at the University of Palermo in Italy, where STEM subject teachers aim to increase student engagement. The University already has access to Moodle as an e-learning platform, but the use of forums and groups is still limited.
