Webex platform UvA-Science: videoconferencing and online collaboration

About

Videoconferencing or online collaboration can be used for all kinds of meetings, discussions or collaboration online. The participants are on different locations at the same time and they use audio (microphone, speakers or headset) and video (webcam) on their computers to communicate with each other. They can share their computer screens to discuss documents or to present something for the whole group. The meetings can be recorded on the video.

Webex is a safe environment for the communication and collaboration online.

What can Webex be used for in education and reseach?

• Different meetings 1:1 or in groups on own computers or in small meeting rooms: lecturers / coaches with individual students or small groups of students, job interviews, study advise meetings, project meetings
• Online collaboration in teams with regular recurrent meetings using also instant person-to-person or person-to-group video calls, person-to-person or group messaging, notifications, file sharing, integration with other tools and your calander.
• Guest lectures (lecture rooms)
• Webinars
• Trainings

Which tools are available on Webex UvA-Science platform?

• Webex Meetings (videoconferencing for discussion in groups up to 20 people)
• Webex Events (webinars)
• Webex Teams (online collaboration groups)

You can download a free Webex Meeting and Webex Teams app at: https://www.webex.com/ . / https://www.webex.com/team-collaboration.html
These apps you can use on all platforms and devices that you use. Connect them with your Webex account (free of charge or a host account). This will simplfy your communication and collaboration on line at your work in education and reserach.  

Can anybody use Webex? 

Yes, anybody who is invited for a meeting in Webex can join the meeting without creating any account. See here below Manual for participants. Anybody who has a Webex host account on the UvA-Science platform can organize meetings in all available tools in Webex with one personal host account and invite for the meeting anybody anywhere on the world to join the meeting (see manuals for hosts). If you are a lecturer or an emplyee at the Faculty of Science you can request a Webex host account (see Webex host account request form here below). There is a limited amount of host accounts available on the platform.

• Webex Teams Hosts: the manual is teh same as for partcipants. The only difference is that hosts can schedule meetings to meet in larger groups than 3 people.
